Alsthom ALS series diesel electric 4133 prepares to leave Hualampong station, Bangkok, with a 3rd class "ordinary" train |
General Electric 4042 arrives at Hualampong with a short 3rd class "ordinary" service. These locos still haul both passenger and freight services, not bad considering they're 45 years old! |
A bit of lucky timing, General Electric 4536 passes Ayutthaya with a southbound bogie tank train |
Alsthom ADD series 4415 pulls away from Ayutthaya with a northbound passenger service |
Alsthom pair 4149 (ALS series) and 4210 (AHK series) haul a southbound 3rd class service at Ayutthaya |

A nice bit of loco haulage on our short journey from Ayutthaya to Lop Buri. We were actually in 2nd class but the coaches on this service were all pretty much the same! |

A sneak peek inside the signal box at Trang. All the mod-cons including a wooden chair, and opening windows! |
I'm not quite sure what this does, but it's a Plasser & Theurer PBR-400P! |

On train dining Thai style! The food was actually quite tasty if you could put up with the train staff getting noisily drunk all around you! |
General Electric 4560 (the last loco in this series) having arrived at Hualampong, Bangkok, with an overnight service |

In the heart of Bangkok, a BTS "Skytrain" approaches Ploenchit station |
At the north end of Chatuchak Park is the Thai Railfan Museum. Not much more than a large garage full of clutter really but worth a quick visit if you're in the area and want to get out of the sun for a bit! |
The back end of the museum is not particularly well organised! There's some old cars, 3 old racing bikes, and a rather pointless collection of old typewriters! |
Not sure how this ended up in a Railfan museum? |
This was an old Bangkok ambulance apparently! |
Back on subject, Japanese built 0-4-0 steam loco 33 near the museum entrance |

Almost 100 years old, this teak coach was an old Royal Saloon |
Another coach nudging 100 years old, this one was an ambulance coach |
Slightly out of place, Hunslet 0-6-0 diesel shunter 24 just inside the shed at the museum |
Part of the ongoing effort to improve Thailands railways. There was a derailment here 2 weeks earlier so I'm not sure if it was still making repairs caused by that? |
If you want to sample part of Bangkok that doesn't appear to get any Western visitors, this is the walk from Bang Sue station to the diesel depot further up the line |

Another withdrawn General Electric, 4032 shows signs of collision damage on it's driving cab |
The scrap compound at Bang Sue doesn't have much space between each line so good photos are fairly difficult. Here, Henschel built diesel hydraulic 3011 sits rusting between some wagons |
I never saw any of the Davenport diesel electric locos working so I assume they're all withdrawn now. One of the 1,000hp examples, 579, sits rusting at Bang Sue |

Another rusting Henschel diesel hydraulic, 3019 is now being taken over by the local plant life! |
Davenport deisel electric 580 is actually one of the better condition withdrawn locos at Bang Sue |
Davenport diesel electric 539 sits near the disused shed at the top of Bang Sue depot. These small locos seem rather underpowered with just 500hp |
In the early 1930s Thailand ordered a number of locomotives from Frichs, of Denmark. This is the one and only articulated diesel locomotive, the others being of a single fixed body design. Originally numbered RSR601 in 1931, the remains of the original number are still visible on the bodyside! Thanks to Hans Christensen for the information. |
