254: Overseas, Germany, Hamburg Harburg 24/08/09

As I was in Hamburg there was really only one choice for how to spend the day. Down to Harburg station for an all day freight-a-thon! It's a slightly frustrating place as freight trains pass on both sides of the station and you can't really position yourself in a spot where you can get a clear view of everything. I think I managed to make the best of it especially as there was some quite heavy rain in the morning. I was there for about 10 hours in total and saw somewhere around 115 freight (I haven't mistyped that, it was 115!), and well over 200 locos in total. The only real problem of the day was finding a dull period to go off and get some lunch. There's definately a gap in the market for a decent food stall on this station! All photos are from Harburg unless stated otherwise.

"SBB Cargo" 421384 was stabled at Hamburg Hbf when I arrived about 8am	143863 arrives at Hamburg Hbf	182517 arrives at Hamburg Hbf with the overnight CNL sleeper service	I thought I had a good spot for a photo of 182517 as it departed but had to rush the shot as another train was just about to get in the way!
Dispolok's 182509 in the colourful "boxXpress.de" livery heads a northbound container train	This "WFL" operated diesel is simply numbered Lok 6, although the old number of 346931 is just visible on the cab side	101026 departs with a southbound IC service	145023 was stabled at the north end of the yard that's just south of Harburg station
Unbranded 189022 heads south with an early morning container service	101018 speeds north with a late running sleeper service	It could be a 66 on Redland, just the livery says otherwise! GM diesel 29001 heads a self-discharge ballast train through Hamburg Harburg	"Ludmilla" 233616 accelerates south with a very heavily loaded mixed freight
Very colourful "EVB" diesel 42014 heads a southbound container train	DB red 151113 heads a long rake of bogie hoppers through the platform	In plain red livery, 189012 runs north to collect it's train from the docks	246003 provides the power for a "Metronom" service to Cuxhaven. These services run to/from Hamburg and reverse at Harburg station
151052 heads north in charge of a well loaded container train	246004 reverses with the "Metronom" service from Cuxhaven to Hamburg Hbf	Unusually clean 185292 runs north light engine	145035 with very faded paintwork heads a northbound container service
151029 heads south with another container train	Another "Dispolok" electric, 182523 heads a northbound container train	Carrying "TX Logistik" branding, 185531 runs light loco through the platform	185546 carries the black, grey & blue colours of "LTH". It is seen here heading a northbound container train

246010 pauses with a Hamburg service. This is a "Metronom" service but the loco doesn't have the normal branding	295014 passes the station light engine. Very faded 151052 with a southbound container train	Rather dirty 155046 runs through the platform with a nortbound container train	There seems to be a theme at Harburg! Another container service, this time hauled by 145035	151159 heads south with a rake of empty bogie flats
189022 heads back south, now in charge of a container train	"Ludmilla" 233112 heads a long rake of empty car carriers past the station	A southbound intermodal service speeds south hauled by a "Hectorrail" liveried loco. It carries the number 241002	151001 & 151153 return south after their earlier coal train
